For regional broadcasters, finding and retaining skilled production talent is a constant challenge. Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting, a TV Asahi affiliate based in Okinawa, Japan, had been grappling with exactly this problem for years. Their solution came through a three-way partnership with NEC and DeepBrain AI — and it's already on air.
Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting had long faced a chronic shortage of specialized production staff. Quality content requires skilled people, and regional stations often struggle to compete for talent. At the same time, the growing number of foreign residents in Japan created a new demand: multilingual broadcasting. Hiring more staff wasn't a viable answer to either problem.

NEC, a Japanese electronics and communications company, partnered with Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting to build an automated AI announcer video production system. DeepBrain AI's video synthesis platform, AI Studios, provided the AI avatar technology at the core of the solution — combining NEC's automation infrastructure with DeepBrain AI's AI Human capabilities.
The key feature is AI Studios' text-to-video technology. Input a broadcast script, and the AI announcer generates a video with natural facial expressions and movements — instantly. Feed in a web link, article, or report, and the system automatically assembles the background, music, and visual elements. No additional staff or equipment investment required.
Starting January 2025, the AI announcer took over weather forecast segments across Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting's terrestrial and internet broadcasts. And with support for 150+ languages, the station can now produce multilingual content for the growing foreign resident population in Japan — without hiring a single additional person.

Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting's story isn't just about replacing headcount. It's about unlocking what a regional broadcaster couldn't do before — stable content production without specialized staff, multilingual reach across 150+ languages, and a sustainable 24/7 broadcast operation.
For DeepBrain AI, this partnership with NEC marks a meaningful step into the Japanese broadcast market, with the ambition to expand AI announcer technology to broadcasters across the country.
